The Eat and Drink page is the fuller food list. For restaurants in Forest Row in mid-October, most people want a proper meal: a table you sit down at, not only coffee or a pint. The village centre is small enough that Hartfield Road, Lewes Road and The Square sit in a short walk of each other, so you can check two or three listed tables and then confirm which kitchen is open that night. Hours, menus and tables change, so confirm with the business before you go.
Indian and Thai tables
Roochi Indian Restaurant is at 9 Hartfield Road. Its own site describes an Indian restaurant in Forest Row serving authentic Indian cuisine prepared with traditional spices. The site names classic curries, chef specialities and tandoori grills, and the site says you can dine in, order takeaway or use delivery around Forest Row and nearby East Sussex villages. Online ordering is on that site. Use the listing for the address and official link, then confirm opening times there.
Thai Time is at 4 Lewes Road. The restaurant’s Forest Row page presents authentic Thai cuisine, with a menu, table reservations and space for a reception or party. It asks guests to book outside tables by phone, not in booking comments. Kitchen hours are published on that page and are evening-led midweek, with longer hours at the weekend. The listing has the Lewes Road address and the official Forest Row page, so you can check current kitchen times before you travel.
Dinner in The Square
Java and Jazz sits in The Square on Lewes Road. Its own site describes an independent pizzeria and cafe that grew from a small cafe with a pizza oven in the late 1990s. It says it offers morning coffee through breakfast, lunch and dinner, is inspired by Italian cuisine, and now has a wine bar. Bookings and online orders are on the official site. The kitchen, the site says, closes half an hour before the venue. Confirm that day’s hours there, then use the listing for the address.
Java is also on the cafes story, because it is a coffee stop as well as an evening table. If you are choosing restaurants in Forest Row for dinner, treat it as the village pizzeria in The Square, not only as a brunch room.
A kitchen at The Yard
Not every restaurant sits on the shop row. That is useful if you are comparing a high-street table with a meal inside a music venue.
The Yard Kitchen is the on-site kitchen at The Hop Yard on Lewes Road. Hop Yard’s own site describes an independent venue and bar with a restaurant, nestled on the edge of Ashdown Forest in Forest Row. It names The Yard Kitchen as the food at the heart of the yard, and it talks about sitting down with friends over a meal before a night out, a Sunday afternoon or dinner with a mate.
The same Hop Yard page says the kitchen specialises in grass-fed Wagyu beef burgers made with locally sourced meat, with a handmade bean burger, loaded fries, wings and mac n cheese. Food is eat-in or takeaway, and Hop Yard says the kitchen is on Deliveroo. Open the Yard Kitchen listing for the kitchen site, and the Hop Yard listing for the venue. Confirm kitchen times on those official pages, because days and hours move.
If you also want a pub meal or a cafe
Start with Eat and Drink for the full food list. For a pub dining room, garden or hotel table, use Pubs In Forest Row. The Swan and The Chequers are on Lewes Road with dining rooms of their own. Brambletye Hotel on The Square is permanently closed, so it is not a current restaurant stop.
For coffee, brunch and cafe tables, use Cafes In Forest Row. Those places are listed as cafes, not as restaurants, even when they serve a plate of food.
If a restaurant has moved, closed or been missed, send a correction through Update a listing or Contact.
