Village pubs on Lewes Road

The Swan at Forest Row sits at 1 Lewes Road. Its own site describes a village pub with a dining area and garden, plus six rooms that it presents as a base for the surrounding countryside and nearby Ashdown Forest. It says the kitchen uses local suppliers where it can and that Sunday is a roast day. Use the listing for the address and official site, then confirm opening times there.

The Chequers Inn Hotel is also on Lewes Road, in The Square. The hotel’s own site presents it as a fifteenth-century pub with a dining room, rooms and conference space, and it names Forest Row as just off the A22, three miles south of East Grinstead. The site also says the business uses local suppliers, including Tablehurst Farm and Plaw Hatch Farm. Again, open the listing for the official link, then confirm rooms and food on that site before you book.

A yard bar, a village club and a brewery tap

Not every drink stop is a traditional high-street pub. That is useful to know if you are searching for pubs in Forest Row and then find yourself comparing a hotel bar with a music venue.

The Hop Yard is at The Yard on Lewes Road. Its own site describes an independent venue and bar with a restaurant, live music, DJs and community events. It also says The Yard Kitchen serves food on site, including eat-in and takeaway. The about page gives directions from the A22 and from Hartfield Road. Confirm the current programme and kitchen times on the official site.

Forest Row Village Club is on Station Road. The club’s own site says it is community-owned, has been at the heart of the village for more than a hundred years, and is the largest community-run organisation in Forest Row. Membership gives access to the members’ bar and club events. The site also notes a hall for hire and a location on the Forest Way. This is a club, not a walk-in high-street pub. Check membership and visitor rules on the official page before you arrive.

Flying Trunk Brewery is at Highgate Works on Tomtits Lane. The brewery site describes a tasting room and bottle shop in larger premises next door to its earlier home. The tasting room is over-18s only and there is no on-site parking. The brewery itself points people to village car parks and to the Metrobus 270 stop at Tomtits Lane. Confirm current opening and age rules on the official site.

If you also want food nearby

Start with Eat and Drink for cafes, restaurants and farm food. Brambletye Hotel on The Square is temporarily closed, so it is not a current pub stop. Check before visiting.
